Bissell & Company Pittsburgh Catalog Supplement Columbian Grates, Peerless Gas Fires Pittsburgh, PA Bissell & Company 1898 Soft Cover Very Good Handsome catalog supplement offering the latest 1898 Peerless gas fireplaces and ornate Columbian grates. The Bissell Company which sold them is not the Bissell of vacuum cleaner fame. This Bissell was noted for its Peerless Gas Fires, Peerless and Columbian Grates and Triumph Stoves and Ranges. They offered here for the first time the New Peerless Gas Fire with a new and more effective combustion system which is explained inside.The supplement measures 5-1/4"x7-1/2" and is nicely illustrated throughout its 20 pages with large photos of the products accompanied by descriptions. There is darkening to top front corner and a bit of browning to back, but otherwise supplement is clean and attractive.

Only fault to book is minor -- former owner's embossed book seal at front free endpaper. Jacket shows one small tear to top edge and two thin lines of fading along borth sides of pictorial design. Otherwise without fault and handsome in brand new mylar. Very nicely illustrated with black and white photographs, color plates and facsimile documents. A fascinating look at the East Broad Top Railroad at Rockhill Furance/Orbisonia, Pennsylvania, a huge three-foot gauge coal-hauling railroad begun in 1873. 248 pages.

Jones, Charles Henry Captain Gustavus Conyngham Pennsylvania Society of Sons of the Revolution 1903 First Edition Hard Cover Good-plus No DJ, as Issued SIGNED by Author Very handsome, slim volume originally owned by a public library, but only indication of same is one sticker affixed to front pastedown and a single stamp to a page edge. The sticker is actually interesting, as it provides the reader with the two rules of the library! Book is SIGNED and inscribed at front free endpaper thus: "To Thomas C. Zimmerman Esq. with the compliments of Charles Henry Jones, June 10th 1903." Book has royal blue cloth boards with gilt at face. Spine and corners are covered in beige cloth. Beige portions show light soiling and a little softeness to upper corners. Tissue over illustration at frontis is missing, but those over other illustrations are present. Two small paper tears were repaired by me with almost invisible, nonbrowning archival tape. 32 pages highlighting the military feats of the subject who was born in Ireland, emigrated to America and was a merchant sea captain, an officer in the Continental Navy and a privateer. The author was a journalist of the day.
