Nice clean auction brochure. Dark orange/rust wraps over heavy cream pages. Illustrated with black and white photographs. 36 pages and 142 lots. Collection was owned by painter Sarkis Katchadourian who also was a book illustrator. This colelction was to have gone to the Musee Guimet, Paris, but transfer could not be made due to the outbreak of WWII. Katchadourian died three years after the sale at the age of 61.

Japan Air Lines 1977 Soft Cover Fine in Good-plus Envelope 
Four beautiful, as new books, each dedicated to a different aspect of Asian travel. They were printed in 1976 and 1977 and issued as a set in '77. The books each have 23 pages and are lavishly illustrated with gorogeous color photography, but also much text. They measure 8-1/2" high and 12" across and fit neatly into their original decorative envelope. The envelope shows wear at corners, but is otherwise clean and nice. Topics are entertainment, shopping, travel, and food. All cover other Asian countries in addition to Japan.

This is a hard-to-find magazine, the entire issue of which is published annually in January by the Nepal Traveler magazine. Designed for the carpet trade, but also for collectors, as much information of value is included, as well as color photographs. This issue is clean and tightly bound with a small bit of wear to crown and tail of spine, isolated edgewear, a flat crease to upper front corner, and a crease next to spine which in no way impinges on the integrity of the binding. Among the topics covered in this issue are the cosmopolitan Tibetan aesthetic, the wool trade throughout the Himalayas, old Tibetan carpets, an early origin of Tibetan carpets, social responsibility and the industry, a negative view of carpet washing, and Nepal carpets in the North American market. 106 pages. Tells the story of Sophia Raffles, the second wife of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles with handsome illustration throughout. She and her husband traveled extensively in Asia where he founded Singapore. VERY NICE BONUS too -- an unused, pristine luggage label for the Raffles Hotel Singapore from the Golden Age of Travel (1920s-30s)laid-in.124

A rather scarce catalog of unique interest, as Korean ceramics are not covered as extensively as those from Japan and China. The catalog is clean and tightly bound with no names or writing. Faults include a tiny bit of wear to top of spine and a sprinkling of faint spots of foxing in outer margin of color photograoh at frontis (see picture). Catalog was published to accompany an exhibit which was shown from Feb. 9 to March 9, 1969.. Text includes map of Korea, general characteristics of Korean ceramics, prehistoric examples, the Three Kingdoms, United Silla, Koryo, and Yi Dynasty. Catalog includes 143 ittems each pictured in black and white with description. 60 pages.
