Japan Air Lines 1977 Soft Cover Fine in Good-plus Envelope 
Four beautiful, as new books, each dedicated to a different aspect of Asian travel. They were printed in 1976 and 1977 and issued as a set in '77. The books each have 23 pages and are lavishly illustrated with gorogeous color photography, but also much text. They measure 8-1/2" high and 12" across and fit neatly into their original decorative envelope. The envelope shows wear at corners, but is otherwise clean and nice. Topics are entertainment, shopping, travel, and food. All cover other Asian countries in addition to Japan.

Very handsome exhibition catalog published to accompany an exhibit at the Barry Davies Gallery from June 12-25, 1993. The book is clean and tightly bound with no names or wriitng and no bumps to boards. Only faults are two small tears to top of spine which almost disappear in brand new mylar cover. Book is oversized at 9" x 13" and printed on quality coated paper. Beautifully illustrated throughout with large full page photographs in color of each of the 100 items, as well as descriptions in English. Inro is a very specific art which sprang up due to the lack of pockets in kimonos. Small containers which hung on the obi were able to keep small items in nesting compartments. Very beautiful objects.

Tells the story of Sophia Raffles, the second wife of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles with handsome illustration throughout. She and her husband traveled extensively in Asia where he founded Singapore. Beautiful book bound in soft cover with Japanese silk sewing at spine. The title of the book is on the cover, but also in black at the outer edge of every page (see photo).There's also a lovely two page art work in color at front. The book was inscribed and SIGNED on the title page by the author who wrote thus, "To Connie with best wishes from the author. Tokyo. March 30, 1953."The book is encased in a chemise which is a box that folds over the book. The cover paper of the chemise is charming and has a paste-on label to front. The only fault with it is a bit of foxing to the lining. The text is filled with quotations, poems, small stories, and more. Together the book in its case measures 6-1/2" x 9" with 152 pages. The spine has toned, but the clasp works well to protect the book.

Buddhism has evolved immensely to where it is now. In primitive times there were two roles only for women -- laywomen or almswomen. Book has 391 pages including index.

Also includes some black and white art. The original price fromToguri's Gifts remains on the back cover.

This is a beautiful book not often found in its slipcase with Japanese banner still intact. Box shows one bump ( see photo) with some creasing to front closed edge and a corresponding defect on the banner which was over the box when it received the damage. The slipcase is quite sturdy with no bumps and no splits to extrmities. It has protected the lovely ecru silky cloth binding. Introduction is in English, the rest in Japanese, but the art is contemporary and charming. Poti-Bokuru is the art of decorating the small enveloeps given as gifts in Japanese culture. The works are beautiful.

Book measures 9" x 12-1/4" and has 64 pages. Very handsome endpapers show a color map of Asia. Beautifully illustrated with both color and black and white photographs and art. Princeton--in-Asia is a program which began in the late 19th century when it served Asia as a Christian missionary organization. From there it changed -- becoming nonpartisan and nonsectarian. The program remained viable at the time the book was written and was annually placing 80 students from America in ten universities throughout Asia. Book will arrive in brand new mylar.
