3 Savoring Silver Lake; Recipes and Reveries
Silver Lake, Ohio The Martha Mary Gild, Church in Silvr Lake, United Church of Christ 2007 0979766605 / 9780979766602 Hard Cover Fine No DJ, as Issued 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall
This is an especially nice church cookbook -- at first glance I thought it must be one published by the Junior League which is noted for its excellent design. But it's the product of the Martha Mary Guild of the Church In Silver Lake, Ohio United Church of Christ. It's fashioned exactly like the old Betty Crocker binder style cookbooks of the 70's, but with an interior spiral to lie flat. The cover, as well as inside the cover, has sepia toned vintage photos showing off the lake as it was in times past. The book is clean as a whistle and very giftable. Inside you'll find lots more sepia vintage photos, plus such goodies as spice roasted Asian pear with gorgonzola-marscapone fluff, ice cream french toast, Bunratty Folk Park scones from Bunratty Castle in Ireland, Lebanese lentil soup with rice, chicken rolls in praline glaze, and beef and Guiness stew. And we didn't even get to dessert!

8 Dahnke, Mary Favorite Recipes from Mary Dahnke's File
Chicago: Kraft-Phenix Cheese Corporation, 1936
Soft Cover. Good/Good. No Edition Stated. Oblong. James Kraft, a Canadian Mennonite who'd been eased out of his first cheese business, took to the Chicago streets with a horse named Paddy and wagonful of cheese. Meanwhile he worked at finding a way to produce a consistent, quality product with an extended shelf life. Little did he know that the Phenix Cheese Company, famous for its Philadelphia cream cheese, was working on processed cheese too. Kraft beat them to the patent office in 1916, but in 1921 agreed to share the patent and in 1928 merged the two companies. This 30's brochure bearing both company names is a fun piece of early advertising, very clean and tightly bound. Defects are comfined to spine where there is a chip at bottom, a small hole in the middle and a couple white spots caused by the outer paper chipping off. Measures 3x7-1/2" and has 45 pages. Illustrated in color. Recipes come with menus and feature such novelties as Grape Cluster Salad. To add to the charm, the rear pages features Kraft products of the past such as Ham-n-Aise and Kraft Kay. Some come in "Swankyswig Glasses!"
