Fork Union, Virginia Fork Union Miliary Academy Soft Cover Very Good 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall
Very nice, clean catalog for this Virginia Christian military academy designed to prepare boys for college. Spiral bound to lie flat and brown pebbled boards with gilt to face. Measures 8"x11" and has 117 pages. No names or wriiting and pristine pages -- high quality coated paper. Liberally illustrated with black and white photographs. Curiously, there is no date, but the President of the school at this time was Colonel James Caldwell Wicker who in 1950 as head of Fork Union made a splash in educational circles with a new type of curriculum. Th s appears to be from the 50's also, but late fifties, given the fins on the large cars in the parking lot. Offers families an overview of the athletics, educational, and moral aspects of the school. A card pocket at back is empty -- likely contained application.

4 Lawrenceville School Vs. Hill 1934 Baseball Program (Prince Konoye of Japan. Fumitaka Konoye)
Lawrenceville, New Jersey Lawrenceville School 1934 Soft Cover Good
Program is very clean inside and out, but spine has been neatly renforced with clear tape showing no brittleness or browning. Pages are pristine and include an unused batting order sheet laid-in. Though interesting of itself the program contains a photograph of Fumitaka Konoye, the eldest son of Prince Konoye of Japan who in the early 1940’s served as Prime Minister. Konoye Sr. is known for having failed to reach a peace agreement with Cordell Hull and President Roosevelt that would have kept the United States out of WWII. After the war, on the day he was to surrender to trial for war crimes the Prince committed suicide by ingestion of potassium cyanide. The young boy featured here by then had been taken prisoner of war by the Russians in Manchuria and sentenced to 25 years of hard labor in Siberia. He died in the camp October 20,1956, two months before his scheduled repatriation to Japan and ONE DAY after Moscow and Japan restored diplomatic relations. Today Princeton awards a scholarship in his name to Japanese students. I have much information on this and will provide more detail to the buyer.
