From 1936 to 1964 no one had analyzed church owned tax-exempt properties in the United States. Finally in 1965 one of the authors published a study that looked at four cities. Here they take a look at the historical background of tax exemption for religious bodies and how the issue has fared in the courts before reexaming the original four cities -- Buffalo, Washignton D.C., Baltimore and Denver and adding an additional ten. 301 pages.
