1 Hinderer, Corporal Arthur W. The Story of Battery "D" 1917-1919
Battery D 59th Artillery Veterans Association Hard Cover Very Good No DJ
This is a hard history to find and in quite good condition. There are a few tiny white dots to top of front board and a bit of lightening of color at bottom edge of back board, as well as mild darkening to gutters front and back. But pages are wonderfully clean and binding is tight with no cracks to hinges. No date stated, but circa 1955. Book has one black and white photo at frontis and two clean, bright fold-out maps as well as five additional maps. Text begins with training at Forts Hamilton and Tilden, followed by departure on board ship to France with intense training at Aix and La Courtine before marching off to the front lines where they met the enemy at St. Mihiel and Argonne Forest. Book describes all five harrowing phases of the offense, including the final at Romagne. It's a story of casualties, rain, mud, mustard gas, discouragement, courage, and, always, the unexpected. 190 pages.
