Various authors, American Geographical Society Know Your America Program, Doubleday, 1958-59. No edition stated. Boxed set of six 64-page pamphlets covering New Orleans, Texas, The Twin cities, Detroit, Illinois and Indiana, and Shipping. Contains laid-in promotional material from the American Geographical Society. Pamphlets were sold via the mail and included stickers which could be affixed to various spots throughout the text. All stickers have been affixed to these six "albums," as they were called. Invoice showing original price included. Nooks very clean and in good repair. Especially interesting are four pictorial fold-outs, all completely intact. Book is tightly bound, half leather with paisley paper over boards and no broken hinges, despite advanced age. There is foxing to some pages, small loss of leather at lower right front corner and edge chipping, but overall has been preserved . Colorful endpapers in blue and pink and matching color and design to page edges. Spine is leather with five raised horizontal bands. Contents include, but are not limited to, voyages to Syria, China and Palmyra, as well as a description of diamond mines and a letter from Sir John Clayton describing "observables" in Virginia, "more particularly concerning the Air." 430 pages, plus list at rear of further books. Nine volumes in all, each prepared by the Cooper-Hewitt Museum as part of a series entitled "The Smithsonian Illustrated Library of Antiques." Publications dates are from 1979 to 1982. Titles and authors are: Silver, by Jessie McNab; Furniture I, by Robert Bishop and Patricia Coblentz; Porcelain, by Jerry E. Patterson; Needlework by Adolph S. Cavallo; Boxes, by William C. Ketchum Jr.; Prints, by Donald Karshran; Clocks, by Douglas H. Shaffer; Pottery, by Brenda Gilchrist (editor); Needlework, by Adolph S. Cavallo; and Glass by Paul Vickers Gardner. All are clean as a whistle inside and out with only one with dustjacket showing a tiny tear to upper rear edge and a few indentations to back.
