Putnam, Sallie B. Richmond During the War (Six Full-Color Prints of Battles Laid-in) Time-Life 1983 0809442620 / 9780809442621 Leather Fine No DJ as Issued The Time-Life Civil War Collector's Library is exquisitely done, but this book has even more going for it. Not only is it leatherbound with gilded page edges in mint condition, but it also has a wonderful surprise laid-in -- six gorgeous, full-color prints suitable for framing. All are the work of 19th century lithographers, Kurz and Allison, and feature various battles, including the battle between the Monitor and the Merrimac, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Lookout Mountain, Kenesaw Mountain, and Cedar Creek. Each measures 5-1/4"x8-1/2" and is crisp and clean in original folder by Time-Life. As for the book, it's got it all -- beautiful paisley endpapers, a ribbon marker, the original advertising page issued by the publisher and the original unused bookplate issued by the publisher. The author came to epitomize southern womanhood during the Civil War, as you will see in these pages written in her own words.. Not only did she support the Rebel cause, but endured incredible hardship with hope and singleness of mind until defeat. 389 pages of anecdote and detail. Highly accessible to the modern reader.
