Butterfield, C.W. Magazine of Western History Illustrated December, 1886 Cleveland, Ohio The Magazine of Western History 1886 Soft Cover Very Good Wraps, Good Scarce and collectible -- a magazine which, despite its title, refers not to the far American West, but to Ohio and surrounds. This issue is from Dec. 1886 -- Volume V, No. 2. Very nice, not commonly seen, magazine. Pages are clean as a whistle throughout. Only faults are a small piece of paper missing at both crown and tail of spine (no spine crease), one small tear to bottom rear edge, and short tears to cover at spine, front and back. The latter deficiency has been repaired with transparent archival tape and is now holding firmly. The premier article in this issue is clearly the 45 page piece covering the history and personalities of the University of Michigan. Illustrations include portraits of luminaries and smalll depictions of buildings. The article is entitled "The University of Michigan with Sketches of James Burill Angell, Corydon L. Ford, Henry Simmons Frieze, and George Edward Frothingham." The piece was written by C.W. Butterfield and A.B. Palmer, both of whom were historians of the day. Butterfield is perhaps best known for his "History of Simon Girty." Other articles include the history of boycotting, Alaska, and the refugee lands in Ohio. Price:
