Lovely little book, as all the Lakeside editions are. Crisp brown boards with gilt insignia to face board and gilt printing to spine. Top page edges gilded as well. Measures a petite 4-1/2"x7." Nicely illustrated. Very readable account of a young woman who traveled the Oregon Trail with her family and a group of other travelers and were ultimately attacked by a band of Sioux Indians, resulting in death for some and captivity for Fanny and her adopted daughter, Mary. Includes a poem about Fanny written by a soldier and an epilogue which outlines the sad events of her life after release from her ordeals. 267 pages. Indexed.
