Margaret of Navarre The Heptameron New York The Panurge Press Previously Printed. Limited Edition Hard Cover Very Good No DJ, as Issued Privately Printed Very nice copy, limited to a press run of only 1500, of which this is #257. Purple boards with textural pattern of leaves and crisp gilt design and printing to front board and gilt design only to rear. Very light pinking stain above title. Gilt to spine slightly faded. Rough cut pages. Very clean contents save a few isolated spots of foxing. No date, but appears to be from the 1920's judging by design. Although The Heptameron dates from the 16th century and has been attributed to Margaret of Navarre, scholars have argued over the validity of the assignment of authorship. An astonishing book translated from the French and comprised of a collection of stories told by five gentlemen and five ladies, all travelers stranded at an abbey. It has shocked readers through the centuries for various reasons -- its views on religion and/or its graphic details. Amazingly accessible to the modern reader. 312 pages. Price:
