Rule, Margaret The Mary Rose : The Excavation and Raising of Henry VIII's Flagship Annapolis, Maryland, U.S.A. Naval Institute Press 1984 0870219472 / 9780870219474 Fourth Impression Hard Cover Near Fine Very Good SIGNED by Author Very nice book -- clean as a whistle inside and out with no tears or chips and no writing. Only fault is small bit of foxing to endflap edges. Looks most handsome in brand new protective mylar. Author's signature at title page. Handsome pictorial endpapers and lavish illustration, including wonderful black and white and color photos of the excavation. Also technical diagrams and charts. The author, one of the world's leading maritime archeaologists, served as a consultant shortly after the rediscovery of The Mary Rose, a position which forced her to learn to dive in her 40's. She went on to become Director of the Mary Rose Trust. The raising of Henry VIII's flagship, which unexpectedly sank in 1545, was an eleven year process well worth the effort, as the artifacts retrieved include ship fittings, weaponry, clothing, jewelry, books and even a barber/surgeon's medical kit. A fascinating story in and of itself made more so by the story of the excavation. 240 pages. Indexed. Price:
25.00 USD
