Holly Leaves, The Christmas Number of the Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News, 1954
1 Holly Leaves, The Christmas Number of the Illustrated Sporting & Dramatic News, 1954
London Commonwealth House 1954 Christmas, 1954 Soft Cover Very Good Folio - over 12" - 15" tall
From its spectacular red, black and gold cover art to its slick pages, large size, and terrific ads, this vintage British collectible magazine is a thing of beauty! It measures a whopping 10x14-1/4" and is clean as a whistle inside and out, marred only two small errant red marks to bottom front at gilt. Poems and stories abound, but it's the art and the ads that take the breath away. All are gloriously frameable if you can bear to cut the magazine. This edition is especially interesting due to its article on the post office packet service and the gorgeous paintings and history of Plymouth. Magazine has been beautifully preserved . If you love art and/or England it truly doesn't get any better than this.

From its notebook look to its colorful sculptures this is a very different art catalog. Keith Tyson is a British conceptual artist and winner of the Turner Prize in 2002 for his graphic art. The sculpures depicited came to light due to his curiosity about decision-makng during the creative process. The essential question was can the artist dare to take a chance on chance? Yes! And from then he went on to create a series of steps to calculate and detemine the size, sharpe, and colors of each work and then fabricate the outcome which became a "dicey" and very interestig exhibit.Catalog measures 8-1/2" x 11" and has 42 pristine pages.
