Book offers 200 watches, each with three views and descriptiions. There is also an historical overview which traces the changes in manufacture over time. Photos are large and crisp in both blacka nd white and color.

Text, by a leading Dutch horologist, describes the origin and development of the lantern clock, which was also known as "Bedpost" or "Birdcage." 159 pages.

Catalog measures 8-1/2" x 10-1/2" and has 255 pages including index, and is printed on quality coated paper. Photos are in color and some are oversized. The auction was held on September 20, 2006 in the Grand Havana Room in New York City where bidders took their chances for 365 lots. Among the brands brands were Cartier, Elgin, Longines, Rolex, Philippe Patek, Tiffany and Harry Winston.

Book is very clean and nice with no names or writing. Small crease to upper front corner with no crumpling -- sharp corner remains. Jacket may possibly have sunned at spine to light blue but it is so uniform that it's difficult to tell, as lettering remains unaffected. Very attractive and matches the blue on the clock at face. Jacket protected by brand new mylar.Illustrated with both black and white photographs and color plates. Also includes handsome fold-out at back. Thomas Tompion, known as the "father of clockmakers", was one of the finest horologists in history. He created works of art as well as accurate timepieces. Much information and spectacular images. Book was originally published in 1951.It's oversized at 9"x11=3/4" and is fascinating for both its extensive text AND its incredible black and white photographs of the internal workings of the clock
