5 Sites Et Monuments De France; Bourgogne, Nivernais, Bourbonnais, Franche-Comte (20 Vintage Postcards, Original Box)
Paris Soft Cover Near Fine in Fine Box
Lovely, postally unused collection of 20 vintage postcards in their original green box which is bordered in gilt with black printing to face only. There is no date, but they appear to be from the 1930's. We also believe this to be true because they were purchased as part of a larger collection amassed by a relative of the former's owner's during the early 1930's while touring France. Many items had dates from the early 30's. All cards and box are very good with no errant marks and nice crisp clean corners and paper. Each scene is tinted a very handsome green to match the attractive original box. A few scenes show mountains and the countryside, but most display churches, monuments, hotels and other buildings in the areas listed above in the title. Includes a few interior shots of statuary.

The Romance of Scotland (Vintage Travel Brochure)
7 The Romance of Scotland (Vintage Travel Brochure)
London Midland and Scottish Railway 1932 Soft Cover Very Good
A charming graphic and a map so crisp that I felt like the first person to open it! There's a tiny tear at the top of one of the folds, but I reparied it with a tiny piece of nonbrowning archival tape. The brochure measures 4"x9-1/2" folded, but then opens to 8" wide. It's printed on coated paper and has photographs in black and white with the crisp map at back. Unpaginated, but I counted 25.

Flair Annual 1953, Cowles, Fleur
12 Cowles, Fleur Flair Annual 1953
New York Cowles Magazines Inc. 1952 Hard Cover Good-plus No DJ as Issued Folio - over 12" - 15" tall
Fleur Cowles is best remembered as the founder and editor of the gorgeous magazine named Flair, a publication so beautiful and unique that the cost of producing it drove it off the newstands. Flair remains popular today despite its short life. After the magzine was canceled Cowles created this hardcover annual with many of the same charming touches readers loved. Here we have big fold-outs, a cut-out front cover, and an exquisite little booklet bound-in titled "The Flower of Flowers" by none other than the celebrated author Katherine Ann Porter. Among the topics here are Walter Winchell, caligrapay, Valentines,. travel to London, artists and much more. Illustrated lavishly with both color art and black and white photographs. Book is oversized at 10"x13-1/3" and has 227 pages. Though not perfect, it's still clean and tightly bound. Faults are confined to a small tear to cloth at front spine which I successfully repaired (almost invisible). a bit of toning to exerior page edges and a few spots of darkening to isolated areas of gilt decoration.

Two Years Before the Mast: Volume One, Volume Two in Slipcase, Dana, Richard Henry Jr.
13 Dana, Richard Henry Jr. Two Years Before the Mast: Volume One, Volume Two in Slipcase
Los Angeles, CA The Ward Ritchie Press 1964 Reprint Hard Cover iFine in VG Slipcase No DJ, as Issued
Two pristine books nestled in a very nice clean, sturdy slipcase. Pages and page edges are pristine and there are no bumps or creases and no names. The only fault is a tiny dot on the lower spine of each book, a quirky thing that thie sale I bought it from does to each book it sells. The book is a memoir originally published in 1840 following a trip the author took in 1836 from California to Boston in a merchant ship. The title's "before the mast" is something of an enigma, but it simply means the area where the common sailors were quarttered -- before the mast. Books are beautifully illustrated, including some with subtle color (see photo) . 552 pages. Volume II shows photographs at the back of book.Altogether nice enough to be a gift.

Letters From Three Continents, M., The Arkansas Correspondent of the Louisville Journa (Flournoy, Mathew)
20 M., The Arkansas Correspondent of the Louisville Journa (Flournoy, Mathew) Letters From Three Continents
New York D. Appleton & Co. 1851 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good No DJ, as Issued
Book is quite nice save a darker area to the brown embossed cloth at left side of front cover only and wear to tips of top corners. Gilt is still intact on spine and book is very tightly bound with no cracking to hinges, either front or back. Pages are very clean with no foxing. The only fault internally is scant evidence of the front free endpaper having been torn out, but the next blank page is of the same paper, so it's not terribly noticable. The author was a newspaperman who wrote dispatches from all over the world beginning with England and then off to Cairo and Thebes, Mt. Sanai, Arabia and more. Filled with personal impressions. Book measures 5"x7-3/4" and has 350 pages, plus ads at back for additional Appleton books.
