Though Zermatt is noted as a ski resort located in a German-speaking section of the canton of Valais in Switzerland, the book reflects on the town as it was in the past with historic photographs and informative captions. Book measures 8-1/4" square and has 96 pages. No names or writing and pages and page edges pristine.

Book does not have the dustjacket, but it does have a see-through plastic cover. There are no names or writing and no cracks to hinges. Faults are these -- light dust stain to top edge (the other two edges are very good) and two small spots of foxing to back pastedown. Endpapers show the genealogy of the Bourbon Dynasty. The secret author was named as C. de B., a political informant to the head of the House of Rothschild. Book is illustrated with black and white drawings and 12 black and white plates, all of which are present. Measures 5-3/4" x 8-1/2" and measures 237 pages including index.

Very handsome book, part of a larger set, but a stand-alone title in excellent condition -- even retains its scrace blue dustkacket. This shows two 1" closed tears to top front edge, but are hardly visible in brand new mylar. The dark blue boards have a moire appearance and the paste-on title box at spine is crisp and clean with no chips. Top edges are gilded and side pages rough-cut. Book is a limited edition of 1000 numbered copies of which this is #516. Books are illustrated with images printed on Japan paper. These are photogravures, but the portrait at frontis is in color. Though billed as Louis XV's memoits, they are actually taken from the memoirs of Madame Du Hausett, the lady's maid to Madame Du Pompadour. Very accessible to the modern reader. Six illustratiosn and 283 pages. NO DATE.

A history of the siege of 1492 on the city of Granada in Spain by the combined forces of Aragon and Castile from the armies of the Muslim Emirate of Granada. Irving served as the U.S. ambassador to Spain from 1842 to 1846O, hence his interest. Other two volume sets by the author available in this binding.

Illustration is plentiful throughout with both black and white and color art. There are also small drawings and a glorious, graphically appealing, pristine fold-out map. See photos. Also includes much information.
