Very nice, clean music book designed for children learning to play the Hawaiian steel guitar, though appropriate for beginners of all ages. Clean and tightly bound. Frank Lucas was a jazz guitar superstar. Among his many compositions was the Tiny Tim favorite "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" which Lucas actually performed at Tiny Tim's 1969 wedding to Miss Vickie. Small picture of Lucas at frontis and small drawings with each song. 38 in all including London Bridge, Silent Night, Old MacDonald, Santa Lucia, Oh, Susanna and The Star Spangled Banner. 40 pages.

Ethel Merman's huge vocals, along with the charms of Betty Hutton and Arthur Treacher made Panama Hattie a hit with 502 performances. The show opened on October 30, 1940 and closed on January 2, 1942. The Playbill is tightly bound and clean with just a few tiny spots of edge wear to spine and a gray stain to back cover (see photo). Measures 6-3/4" x 9-1.4" and has 44 pages.

Clean, atrractive booklet measuring 6"x8-3/4". Plain tan wraps printed in black ink at face. Only fault is small spot at top front. Illustrated with black and white photographs. Third Street Music School Settlement, the nation's oldest community music school, was founded in 1894 by Emilie Wagner to provide pleasure and instruction to impoverished immigrants of New York's Lower East Side. It continues today. Here we have a booklet explaining the program and its offerings for the 1949-50 school year for both adults and children. In addition to instrument lessons, there were voice, opera, rhythmic dancing and children's music appreciation courses. Inside the back cover and continuing over to the back itself are time slots with penciled names and the age of each child, ranging from three to nine. Could be erased, but an interesting adjunct to the text. 16 pages.

Scarce souvenir of the Wheeling, West Virginia radio phenomenon known as the Jamboree which hit the air waves in January, 1933, broadcast rom the Hawley Building in Wheeling. The show was so popular it grew to live audience performances and a regular Sunday night spot and, ultimately, a Saturday night show. In 1946 they were still going strong. Clean book showcases the current stars which then included Lew Clawson, The Chuckwagon Gang, Big Slim "The Lone Cowboy", The Rangerettes (Millie Wayne and Bonnie Baldwin); Pete Cassell (King of the Hillbillies); Toby Stroud's Blue Mountain Boys; Crazy Elmer (the show's clown); The Davis Twins (Sonny and Honey); Reed Dunn (the Singing Mountaineer); Hawkshaw Hawkins; Smilie Sutter (West Virginia's champion yodeler) and the Newcomer Twins (Maxine and Eileen). Full page photos in black and white of each performer or group. Measures 6"x9-1/2"

Very nice, attractive program from the 1941-42 Centennial season of the Philharmonic-Symphony Society of New York for the April 1 and 2 performances under the direction of John Barbirolli, noted earlier as a cellist and later as a conductor. He served as music director of the New York Philharmonic from 1937-42. This offering consists of the Carnegie Hall program with the explanatory Philharmonic one laid-in. The Carnegie Hall program features Barbiolli's portrait on the cover as well as an ad inside for his recordings on Columbia Records. The performance consisted of Bach's Chorale Prelude "Wenn wir in hochsten Nothen sind" arranged for orchestra by Barbirolli and Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater."Carnegie Hall program measures 7-1/2"x10-1/4" and has 14 pages, while the Philharmonic program measures 6"x9".

John Basette was a poet, a folk singer, an essayist, and a TV personality in the Greater Cleveland area. He was something of a celebrity here, but prior to that he rocked the 1967 Newport Festival with a song of his own compositon called "Brown Boy." He also participated in a musical show at Carnegie Hall. Bassette died in 2006. His book is rarely seen --- I bought it in Dayton, Ohio. It's in very clean, tightly bound condition and was SIGNED on the back of the front cover. It reads "'79. Last day of August. Yippee! John Basette." Book measures 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and has 346 pages. Illustrated throughout, plus poems, music etc.
