Allis-Chalmers Annual Review 1944
1 Allis-Chalmers Annual Review 1944
Milwaukee, Wisoncon Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company 1944 Soft Cover Very Good 4to - over 9" - 12" tall
Wonderful wartime report from Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing covering all aspects of the business including power generation; power distribution; precessing items such as metals, coal, rock products, cement, forest products, pretroleum, rubber, chemicals, food, and solvent oil; industrial; construction and agriculture; and transportation. The book is oversized at 8-1/2"x11". Minor stubborn soil to spine and a few wrinkles there, likely endemic to the publishing process, but otherwise clean and tightly bound. There is also a letter laid-in to accompany it.The book does have text, but it's the photographs and technical drawings that command your attention. VERY nice and not commonly found.

Fortune Magazine July, 1935 (Anheiser-Busch, Women In Business, Restoring Williamsburg, U.S. Smelting & Refining)
2 Fortune Magazine July, 1935 (Anheiser-Busch, Women In Business, Restoring Williamsburg, U.S. Smelting & Refining)
New York Time-life 1935 Volume XII, No. 1 Soft Cover Very Good Folio - over 12" - 15" tall
Very clean, nice issue of one of the star magazines of the 30's. The photography is excellent, as are the articles and the magazine's design. Three topics grabbed my attention -- a colorful piece about Anheiser-Busch and its bottled beer, Part I of a story about women in business, and a look at Mr. Rockefeller's renovation of Colonial Willamsburg. There's also a piece about the cotton industry, one on U.S. Smelting & Refining and a profile of Harry Hopkins. Magazine has no real defect of note. It measures 11-1/2"x14" and has 140 pages. We have around 40 issues of Fortune magazines from the 30's.

3 Geo. L. Wood's Sons "Paragon" Varnishes Advertsing Brochure
New York Geo. L. Wodd's Sons Soft Cover Very Good
Very nice, clean, four-sided brochure advertising Geo. L. Wood's Sons (late Geo. L. Wood & Son) Sole Proprietors and Manufacturers of "Paragon" Varnishes patented September 23, 1884. Though there is no date, we believe it to be from 1889 judging bythe testimonial at back stating how well the product withstood a Pennsylvania flood. Only fault is two horizontal creases. Attractive cover design shows horse and horseshoe. Inside explains properties of both the exterior and interior versions of the varnish, while back is reserved for testimonials. Measures 9-1/2" tall and 10-3/4" when open.

5 Library Bureau Library Supplies Catalog 1942
Library Bureau Division of Remington Rand Soft Cover Very Good
A beautiful catalog enhanced by samples of various mending papers and cloth for book repair tipped in. It's clean as a whistle with no spine crease and measures 8-1/2"x11" with 96 pages printed on coated paper. One small, flat creas to lower fron corner. There is no date, but a bit of detective work places it precisely at 1942. Its advertising boasts 60 years experience and the company became Library Bureau (formerly Readers & Writers Economy Co. started by Melville Dewey, one of the founders of the ALA) in 1882 which brings it to 1942. The second clue was the order blanks tipped in at back. The buyer could send the order to any number of branches with address provided for each, none of which had even the two digit postal code. The postal code system did not debut until 1943. The catalog is beautifully illustrated with all manner of lovely, obsolete library items replete with prices and descriptions. If you love library stuff, this one is very special.
