James Anthony Froude A Biography; Volume I, Volume II, Dunn, Walso Hilary
4 Dunn, Walso Hilary James Anthony Froude A Biography; Volume I, Volume II
London Oxford University Press 1963 First Edition Hard Cover Very Good Good-plus
Two handsome books bound in navy blue coth with bright gilt to spines. No names or writing and tightly bound. Jackets are quite good though do show some light foxing at creases of endflaps, a few small tears which almost disappear in brand new mylar, and three tiny chips to top of spine on volume I. A fascinating biography of Froude who was a biographer (and novelist) himself, as well as editor of Fraser's Magazine. Controversy visted him twice, once for a "scandalous" book in which he shards his doubts about Anglican theolog,y and the second time for a biography of Thomas Carlyle which portrayed the subject as a selfish gossip with marital problems. This biography is based on primary respources bestowed upon the author by Froude's daughter. Books measure 6"x9" and has 652 pages collectively.
