Book is clean and tightly bound, but does show wear to crown and tail of spine including a small piece missing at crown. Hinges are tight, but back one shows a repair made with Japan paper similar in color to endpapers. Hinge is strong and tight, but you can see cracking to pages through repair paper (see photo). Silver ornamentation is bright on both face and spine and there are no names or writing. Book provides a detailed history of New York City's China Town during the last decade of the 19th century. Text is plentiful and detailed and is augmented by both both small black and white photos and drawings of daily life.The author covers quite a few topics including governance, the Chinese restaurants and laundries, the seclusion of women, family life, music, opium smoking (includes a detailed drawing of the apparatus), playing fan-tan, Chinese lotteries, prostitution, slave girls, Chinese funerals, Chinese cemeteries and much more. A fascinating book of 329 pages.

The author's private collection is sumptuously photographed in color and focuses on ancicent Chinese ornaments which were traded by the Sythians with the ancient Greeks as early as 3000 years ago. Book also contains a letter to the author from a well-known Calfornia bookseller, types and signed.

An amazing amount of information in a book which measures 4-1/2"x6-1/2", but is also 2-1/2" thick with 1504 pages. Wonderful crisp, clean fold-out maps and charts throughout, plus an atlas at the back of the book in full color. Book sports red board swith no bumps to corners and a handsome orange top exterior edge as per design, a red bound-in ribbon marker, and map endpapers. Only faults are small tear to both outer bottom corners of dustjacke, former owener's name half-hidden under front endflap. and isolated edge wear bottom front edge. Jacket will arrive in brand new mylar cover. Much history, but also practical information on customs, languages, transportation, clothing, postal and telephone systems, how to eat in Chinese restaurants, cigarettes and spirits, entertainments, hotels etc. An insightful look at what seems now like the old China. Delightful!

I buy every Weisbrod I can find -- gorgeous in dust jackets and full page color photos of the art.They're also oversized at 8-3/4" x 12". This one has 107 pages highlighting 42 works of art in bronze, pottery, limestone, jade and porcelain. Catalog is clean and tightly bound with no names or writing.The only fault is a small area at top of back dust jacket where there appears to be a lamination issue, but I have placed it in a brand new mylar cover and overall is beautiful.
