Very scarce booklet measuring 6"x9", tightly bound and clean. Faults include light crease at bottom front corner, light soiling to beige card cover, light dampstain in outer margin of first 18 pages but not affecting text or photographs, and a discreet stamp to front which reads "Century Library January 6, 1931." Book was compiled by a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a Fellow of the American Public Health Assocation at the bequest of the Committee of Twenty which was comprised of physicians disgruntled over street conditions and the public health, among whom was Edward Henry Lewinski Corwin, a Polish activist, author, and physician who worked in the public health sector. Eleanor Roosevelt served on its advisory committee. The author studied European methods by touring Germany, Italy and Zurich to compile the report which consists of 39 pages with twelve black and white photographs, some showing the latest in street cleaning machinery.
