Book is clean and tightly bound with no names or writing. No dustjacket, but boards are cute and Christmas green. Looks like a children's book, but upon closer inspection proves to be a humorous take-off on Clement Moore's famous "The Night Before Christmas" -- with a few winks for grown-ups! The color and fabric of a Panamanian holiday shines through, as do the Panamanian people from the lottery vendors and C.Z. police to the commissary vendors and soldiers and sailors. Even the cockroaches and termites get a nod! This WAS 1935 though, so don't expect it to be P.C.. Nonetheless it's good natured fun from an author who clearly loved the area and wrote several other books about it. Here's a sample of her sly verse,"The women you say? W-e-l-l, Santa, you know. That women's clothes always are funny; Down there what they wear wouldn't smother a flea, Which is plain to be seen -- when it's sunny!"
