Gatherings in Honor of Dorothy E. Miner

Beautiful oversized book measuring 9"x11-1/4" with very clean blue boards showing light fade to edges. Gilt printing and design to face and gilt printing to spine. Large photo portrait of Dorothy Miner at frontis. Book was compiled by her colleagues shortly before her death in appreciation of a 39 year career as curator of the Walters Art Gallery. Miner was mentored by Belle Da Costa Greene, who traveled the world buying rare books for the J.P. Morgan Library and who in that capacity gave Miner her first job and counseled her in the intricacies of the illuminated page. Book is a compilation of essays, a Festshrift, they conspired to keep secret not knowing that she knew they were planning one just as she had done the same for Belle, her beloved mentor. Topics include, but are not limited to, a 10th century illuminated Greek New Testament, the Praxtapostolos of the Walters Gallery, Mamluk playing cards, the Monastic Library the banquet and the hunt in medieval Islamic iconagraphy and much more. Printed on heavy paper and nicely illustrated throughout with black and white photographs.353 pages. Indexed.
