A History of the City of Cleveland Its Settlement, Rise, and Progress 1796-1896

A beautiful rebind (blue buckram) of a pristine book not often seen. The endpapers are also new, but the rest of the book is in its original condition with handsome gilt to top edge of textblock (see last photo). All pages, maps, and fold-outs are in clean condition with no tears and no foxing. Also contains no names of previous owners. Book is illustrated throughout including maps, portraits, and views of various landmarks such as Euclid Avenue which then was Euclid Street. Interestingly enough, the book is numbered 627, but there is no indication of the number of copies printed. I have only seen two a couple of these ever, and both contained a smaller number, so I have no way of speculating on the size of the print run. The author traces what is essentially the evolution of a midwest city located on the shores of Lake Erie from its wilderness beginnings to the year of its first centennial celebration. 585 pages.
