Beautiful fine binding -- clean and tightly bound. Spine is decorated handsomely with gilt on brown leather spine strip with blue calf to areas beside spine and to cormers. No cracking to hinges no names or writing, and no foxing. Faults include spots of wear to corner leather at upper front and to both back corners (see photo). There is also a small spot to back cover, a few wear spot next to spine at back and wear to back corners. Overall, quite nice. There is no date in the book, but I did find a very small stamp on the reverse side of the front endpaper that it had been a special printing for Marshall Field, the Chicago department store which provides a minor clue to age, as Marshall Field did not do business with that name until 1881. The book appears to have been published circa 1890. Portrait of Josepehine Bonaparte at frontis. Book measures 5-1/4"x7-1/2" and has 306 pages including index. Top edges nicely gilded.
