Book is clean and tightly bound with no cracking to hinges and no names or writing. There is a small amount of wear to crown and tail, mild soil to front, and a bit of light foxing to edges of back board along with one small stain to side edge. Pages are clean with just a few spots of foxing to blank page at front. Print run was limited to just 900 copies. It is volume II of the Occasional Papers published by the Historical Society, but it is also a stand-alone title. Maps and illustrations, the latter of which are prinmted on white coated paper. Handsome pictorial endpapers. A first person account of life aborad the Julkius Caesar, whaler bound for South Indian Ocean taken when the author was 28 years old. The destination was Desolatation Island spent two Antarctic summers and one Antarctic winter aboard ship. 208 pages. Indexed.
