Book itself is crisp and clean with no names or writing and no bumps to bright pumpkin colored boards. Jacket is quite good, but does show a rectagular shadow to front from a bookstore sticker adhered to noncoated paper which is why we don't dare try to remove it. Spine has also sunned on jacket and there is a small tear to bottom back corner with a small loss of color and mild soil to back outer side edge. Book has not been price-clipped and is most handsome in mylar.Originally published in a run of only 219 copies in 1953. Written by the Caribbean poet who rose to notoriety during the 1930's as the leading propoent of "negritude", a philosophy that "rehabilitates" black culture and selfhood. Picasso's drawings were created specifically for this work. Written in English with French at back of book. Measures 8"x10-1/4".
