A fascinating collection of true stories of Canal Fulton, Ohio written in a breezy vernacular style by Burton P. Porter who at the time of writing was a lawyer and a retired entrepreneur who had left his mark on the expansion of Detroit, Michigan. Still one to hop from city to city, Porter always came back to his ancestral home of Canal Fulton. Here he shares the colorful stories of the region, a few vintage photos, and lots of history winding in and out like a meandering creek. The stories cover all manner of things and are certainly not limited to the following: Brimstone Corners; the canalers, including their fights and bad guys; Kentucky moonshine; circus days; a visit from Captain and Anna Bates, better known as the giants of Seville; the village as a health resort; coal mining; and the canal ghosts. Best of all, the book is signed on the front free endpaper by its author. Book is clean and tightly bound with just a small bit of corner wear and no names or writing. If you love the canals of Ohio this one is much fun and not commonly found. 471 pages.
