There's a lot of reasons to love this exhibition catalog. First of all, the text is in ENGLISH. Secondly, its an exhibition catalog replete with color and sepia art printed on coated paper. Then there's the fact that it's brand new and has pretty two-tone blue maps printed inside both covers. What's remarkable though is the art depicting fireworks from 1644 which had pyrotechnics for the King's Feast on Place de Palais in August, 1644 to the marriage of Napoleon I and the Archduchess Marie-Louise in 1810. The Booklet measures 8-1/4" x 10-1/2" and has 77 pages. The exhibition spanned October 11... View more info

Sketches of Boz (Goodall Library Edition In Specially Made Box)

Price: $125.00

Publisher: Leeds, England, Goodall, Backhouse & Co.: 1885

Edition: Goodall Library Second Edition

Seller ID: 27537

Condition: Very Good in VG Box

This is a most unusual find, a copy of the Goodall Library edition of Charles Dickens' first published work which made its debut (in hard cover) in the 1830's. This is the second Goodall (British company) unabridged printing of 250,000 soft cover copies in 1885. It sounds like a lot -- and it is -- but it's not easy to find a copy, as it was ephemeral by nature. Whoever owned this one valued it enough to have a special box made to protect it -- and protect it it did. The booklet has a sewn binding which is tight and effective and its pages and cover are clean, showing only a tiny bit of foxing... View more info

Condition: Very Good

George Eliot, the British female author of Middlemarch among other titles, retains her popularity with books, TV, and movies. The publisher was noted for unusual calendars such as this one which quotes from her several novels. I don't know what the fastener should look like, but I don't think it's the white cording. It would be easy to change it if desired. The calendar measures 6" x 9". There's some smudging to the left outside edge under the blue image. I ran the document pad over it which helped, but didn't erase it. The pages are very clean inside. View more info
