Price: $35.00

Publisher: Washington D.C., Government Printing Office: 1917

Seller ID: 27857

Condition: Very Good

There were many items published to convince citizens to buy Second Liberty Bonds to finance WWI. I have one advertising piece here in color which is graphically appealing. The other three items are plain janes, but they're also the nuts and bolts that got the job done. First off we have a booklet titled "The Second Liberty Loan and the Causes of Our War with Germany" given as a speech by the Honorable W. G. McAdoo which was delivered at the annual convention of the American Bankers' Association in Atlantic City on September 20, 1917. McAdoo was Woodrow Wilson's Secretary of the Treasur... Seller ID: 24566

Condition: Very Good

Nine out of twelve issues of Vermont's state magazine from 1904, a couple of which retain their subscripotion forms. no mailing labels.. The contents are pristine on every one and outer covers show only a few minor defects -- a stray spot, isolated color fading, and in one instance, a small chip to the bottom front edge near the spine. Overall quite nice. Attractive local advertising in all and sometimes a look at Vermont's pretty young women too. Articles cover numerous aspects of the state, but some of the topic highlights include the granite industry; Suzanne Sheldon, a talented Vermont ac... View more info

Condition: Very Good-good

Twelve issues -- a full run of this historic Vermont magazine for the year 1903. All are clean and tightly bound with the following faults: chipping to the bottom edge of front cover of one, browning to edges of white cover of another, light fading to cover edges of all of the brightly colored covers, and wrinkling to first page of the issue with the chipping which we were able to flatten in book press. Interiors of some shows toning to paper at edges and one has a snip missing off corner of one page. Among the topics covered are: Catholics, Protestants, Jews , Unitarians and Universalists in... This publication is a gem for anyone interested in Ohioana and/or genealogy. There are many articles here, but the best is the biographical section which offers bios of pioneers of the Fire Lands. The first article in this issue is rather an anomaly --The Mystery of Atlantis by S.A. Wildman. It's the only one which doesn't discuss the Fire Lands. The second one gets the ball rolling with Second Historical Period of the Fire Lands by Clark Wagoner. Oh, how I wanted these! There were 20 altogether, but half of them were too awful to contemplate. The ones I bought are not going to be given tiaras for beauty, but at least they're only reasonably flawed. What makes them flawed are these things: partial spines required archival tape of five issues; a chewed lower edge of the front cover of one and to the lower right corner of another; a small bit of fairly light foxing and damp staining somewhere on each. There's also some vertical creasing, but I am going to iron them ASAP and put them in the book press overnight. There are many topics, incl... View more info

This is a scarce little booklet published after the installation of the President James Garfield Memorial Statue in Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. Very nice, clean dedication program and souvenir with no names or writing. The booklet was made with a suede-like cover, which after lying around all these years, needed to be vacuumed. So I did just that. This dedication was for the new church which replaced the original from 1914. There are numerous photographs of the church as it was being built and after it was finished. Other items are a history and photos of the congregation, as well as letters and photos of dignities such as Pope Pius XII and various bishops. There's also two lists of events -- the religious and the secular, plus lists ... View more info

The graphic design on public documents of the past turned even the most pedestrian of legal forms into art. This beautiful mine certificate issued by the Bonanza Mines Company of Colorado in 1919 would be stunning framed and hung in the office or den. From a capital stock of $250,000 one thousand shares were issued to a Frank Heilig in the amount of one dollar per share. Mr. Heilig kept the stock for a year before transferring it to one J.W. Ernest. A little research on both names, uncovered a Frank Heilig of Caney, Kansas who sat on the board of directors for the Kan-O-Tex Refining Company in... View more info

Choirs from the Roman Basilicas and the Vatican (with Concert Program laid-in)

Publisher: New York, St. Gregory Musical Society Inc.: 1919

Edition: No Edition Stated

Seller ID: 13258

Condition: Very Good

This two-piece souvenir of a 1919 evening of liturgical music marks the first time in history that the choirs from the Roman Basilicas and the Vatican performed outside of Rome. The program does not indicate the city directly, but an Ohio reference on back cover and the fact that the location was St. Clair Avenue leads us to believe it had to have been Cleveland. The most important piece, however, is the larger brochure which measures 8x10" and is profusely illustrated and filled with information about the choirs and their history. Although unpaginated, we counted 24. Cover, though simple,... View more info
