This instruction manual caught my eye because I never heard of shadow stitching. From what I gather it is a technique which provides shadowing using stitches already known and the use of thinner thread and room for part of the mesh to show. If you google it you will see beautiful examples. This book is not written in and shows no other defects. It's bound with a plastic spiral and is in excellent condition. The book measures 6" x 8-1/2" and is 1/2" thick. the covers protected by clear plastic both front and back and there is also a surprise in the back. I'm not sure if it came this... View More...

This is a double saleman's sample book in very good, clean condition. The pairing of titles is a bit odd, but here you have it -- half the book shows the Mary Frances sewing book, but when you flip it upside-down the back cover is the front cover for The Book of Knowledge. (see photos). To my mind the main book is the sewing book -- a charming title which even here in abbreviated form includes a sample pattern for little girls to learn to make doll cllothes. The art is very cute too and includes a couple more color plates. The Mary Frances books were a series designed to teach various domest... View More...

The booklet is tightly bound, but shows a small loss of paper at top of spine and a small chip to spine edge of front cover visible in photo. There are also a few dark stains to front, but these are not highly visible due to darkness of the green paper. The author subsidized her effort iwith national advertising at both front and back.
