Not only are they hardcover and illustrated with photographs (both color and black and white) of the illuminated Hornby Manuscripts of the 9th to the 16th centuries -- a total of 68 in all -- but Volume I shows realized prices inked in, as well as notes that may well be of interest to the buyer. Here we have the coveted first year's output -- all four magazines. He also stamped the date he bought it and then across the gutter on the front free endpaper he stamped the day he let it go. Very elegant booklet, designed with a simple beauty. Only 400 of these ran off the press in 1965, so they aren't turning up everywhere. What caught my attention is how relevant the subject is in today's resurgence of fine presses and small-run books and booklets. Blumenthal was the founder of The Spiral Press, a historian, a designer, and a fine printer. The booklet has a white card cover and its own grey dustjacket, both of which are pristine. It measures 5-1/4"x8" and has 19 pages of text. This is a wonderful addition to a collection of books about books. View More...

Crisp BRAND NEW book still in original publisher's shrinkwrap. An illustrated study of Horace Walpole's Strawberry Hill Press, founded in 1757, a highly regarded English private press revered for the qaulity of its offerings. The author was able to access a "remarkable array" of images of the Printing House, many of which are newly discovered and never before studied. Surprisingly, much of Walpole's Printing House remains. View More...
