Old gift books are a delight, especially when found in its original box as this one was . Not only is it beautiful, but was also kept carefully. The theme of course is the poems of John Russell Lowell paired with that of violets. Together they are totally charming. The book was given as a Christmas gift in 1912 and is recorded as such on the reverse of the front free endpaper.
