The cover graphic by Edwin F. Bayha is fabulous on this early issue of Modern Priscilla magazine, a leading needlework periodical. Note that the woman is standing out in the snow to read her letter -- the clue to whom it might be from is the blue star in the window. A touching reminder that WWI raged. The magazine shows a vertical light crease down the middle which likely incurred when inserted into the mailbox. Three short tears, one on each page at back, were repaired by me with archival tape that does not brown and is virtually invisible. Magazine is oversized at 10"x13-3/4". In add... View More...

The beautiful summer cover painted by McClelland Barclay Isets just the right tone for the pages of summer fashions inside. Barclay was best known as a pin-up artist, but he did a lot of commercial advertising work too. The best thing about this issue though is the intact page of Dolly Dingle paper dolls, totally pristine and uncut. Also, of interest is an article about Herbert Hoover in the role of grandfather. The magazine is clean and tightly bound measuring 10-1/2"x14". Mailing label to bottom front and a few small, light water spots to edges only faults Overall very handsome. View More...

This oversized catalogue is a monument to 60's clothing for men, women and children. It's clean as a whistle inside and out and measures 12" square. The photography is much more interesting than usual, as in addition to the regular shots of models, there are many large full color plates of vignettes where people are modeling the clothes against colorful backgrounds. Initially I thought this was a retail outlet, but it is not. E.F. MacDonald was an incentive company associated most commonly with Plaid Stamps. This catalog, however, makes no reference to stamps. Each item bears a number, but... View More...
