Nice, clean, solid book with handsome pictorial cover. Spine has faded a bit with a small loss of color publisher's name almost illegible at the bottom. Otherwise quite good. Minor wear to boards, but nothing egrigious and book is tightly bound with no crackign to hinges.. Contains 32 black and white plates. Book was serialized in the Strand Magazine in 1897 and published in book form in 1898. Story focuses on a group of holiday-makers on a boat to Egypt sailing up the River Nile when they wind up abducted by a band of Dervish warriors. Beautiful book gently cared for. It's large with large photographs in color throughout. Book measures 9" x 12" and has 288 pages including index. Pages and page edges are white and bright and there's no spine crease and no names or writing. The only fault is a few light scratches to cover. This is an important book about Egyptian faience which was made of desert sand, gold, and semi-precious stones and is considered a magical substance.
